Yeah, it’s my blog. But I seem to enjoy posting stuff about other people and projects as much as my own humble ‘art’. Well, there is a new cartoon on the TV that I like. Can you believe it? I actually laughed. Not that fake ‘hahahah – that’s cleaver’ laugh, or that ‘heheheh I guess that’s funny’. But actual LAUGHS. It’s called Chowder. And it’s on The Cartoon Network. It’s on Fridays, I have my TIVO set.
Who knows how long it will be on the air (I hope for a good long run). Heck, who knows how long Cartoon Network will even call itself Cartoon Network. But the art is great and the cartoon is a real high point for ‘kids’ animation on the tube. As some of you know, animation on TV for kids is a tough racket. It has to walk a line, it is expected to be in good taste, and the Networks have to deal with their content meeting educational guidelines, and SandP is tough on them. I know, I used to work in SandP…oh my god… Still recovering. Anyway, it’s a really unique world, a little bit of Groo and a wee-bit of SpongeBob.
Why is it good you ask? Well, it looks great. The animation itself is funny, and the characters have plenty of room to act. Great timing in the acting and animation and excellent voice work. I’m not crazy about the matte effect they use for clothes, it’s tough on my eyes, but maybe that gave them a NEW thing that got them a greenlight, I don’t know.
Here is the creators blog. Stop by, check it out and watch the damn show. it’s worth it.
